Sky Sports say Alfred Schreuder is no longer in the running to take over as Leeds United boss despite being named the favourite to take the vacant role over the space of the weekend – leaving it entirely unclear as to where we turn next.
Schreuder, 50, emerged as the favourite to take over at the weekend. A report from iNews said he was set to become the club’s new boss, having been in attendance on Sunday at Elland Road to watch Leeds lose to Manchester United.
But the reaction to news that Schreuder – who was sacked by Ajax at the end of January – was not good. Fans took to social media after doing their due diligence on Schreuder. Instantly, many rubbished the idea of his appointment.
Now, Sky Sports report that Leeds have ended the possibility of a move for the Dutchman. It comes after Leeds moves for Andoni Iraola, Ange Postecoglou, Carlos Corberan, Arne Slot and Marcelo Gallardo have previously fallen through.
Perhaps, the fan reaction has prompted Leeds into making this decision. But where do Leeds go now? That is the big question. CEO Angus Kinnear wrote in Sunday’s programme notes that Leeds are well advanced. But, are we actually?

It is the right move. Ultimately, appointing a manager who has struggled in not just the Ajax role but in previous roles at Hoffenheim and FC Twente, was never going to go down well. Unproven, and even more so, unproven in England.
Leeds need a fire fighter right now. A manager in place in the next 48 hours. One that can prepare a team ahead of Saturday’s absolutely pivotal clash against fellow relegation-threatened Everton. Something has got to give at Leeds.
