Next Leeds manager: Orta to go back in for Iraola, his release clause is worth just £7m

The Daily Mail claim Leeds United are set to bounce back from defeat in their pursuit of Feyenoord boss Arne Slot by going back in for Andoni Iraola – despite it being believed that a move for the Spaniard was dead in the water.

Slot, 44, spoke on Friday about a move between Leeds and Feyenoord for his services as manager. But the Dutch gaffer says he has rejected a move to Leeds. Saying he is building “something special” at the Eredivisie leaders.

So, that means Carlos Corberan at West Brom, Andoni Iraola at Rayo Vallecano, Marcelo Gallardo after his sacking at River Plate and now Slot, have rejected Leeds. But, it might be that a move for Iraola is still actually on the cards.

Indeed, after the rejection from Slot, it is claimed Leeds could go back in for Iraola. Leeds have not give up hope of landing Iraola and still hope to pluck him from Rayo Vallecano. He has a release clause worth £7million in his deal.

Is it going to be successful? It is hard to see how it will be, given Leeds were blocked by Rayo just a couple of days ago. But there must have been a sign as to why Leeds have gone back in. There must have been a little bit of hope.

There is no doubting that Iraola would be a superb appointment. A manager that has taken a Rayo side from the second tier of Spanish football, to fifth in La Liga. Rayo have a chance of defying odds, and qualifying for Europe.

Iraola is said to be a disciple of Marcelo Bielsa having worked under the Leeds legend while at Bilbao. Also, he played alongside Jack Harrison while at MLS side New York City. In a team that also included Andrea Pirlo.
