Leeds United are reportedly in the mix to land Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer and Newcastle star Alex Isak has been left blow away by his Sweden teammate – branding him “excellent” and a joy to play alongside.
Gyokeres, 24, was handed his first competitive start on Monday night, scoring and laying on an assist as Sweden easily dispatched Azerbaijan with a 5-0 win. Gyokeres was the star of the show, playing up top with Toon star Isak.
His future at club level remains very much in doubt, while his international future is beginning to blossom. Gyokeres finds himself out of contract at Coventry in June 2024, and the Championship side will have to cash in this summer.
That is, if they want a big fee for their talisman – who has netted 19 goals in 39 games this term. TeamTalk say we will target a move for Gyokeres regardless what division we are in – but he will cost a tall figure of £25million.
£60million Newcastle star Isak spoke to Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen about his new Sweden strike partner. He said that Gyokeres is “excellent” and is great to play with in the final third because he “wins all of his duels”.
“It was good. It is very nice to play with such a player, one who wins all his duels. He did excellently. It made it easier for me, that I could find my areas,” Isak said, following Sweden’s comfortable win in their Euro 2024 qualifier.

Leeds making a move for Gyokeres depends on the future of both Rodrigo, and Patrick Bamford. Leeds may feel that Bamford is not delivering – largely due to injuries – and this summer, it could be time for Bamford to be sold.
In terms of Rodrigo, well his deal ends in June 2024 – like Gyokeres. Leeds need to make a decision – should they hand the 32-year-old new terms and look to keep him at the club until the latter stages of his career? Or sell.
If either one of those do choose to leave, then you would expect a move for Gyokeres. But if Bamford and Rodrigo remain, then there is little space in the final third for a signing like Gyokeres – especially, with Georgie Rutter.
