Reports have emerged this week that Leeds United are planning to keep Max Wober at Elland Road if the Whites gain promotion – and surely, that suggests Leeds are not going to offer Liam Cooper a deal.
Wober, 25, is one of 12 players that have left Leeds on loan – alongside the likes of Marc Roca, Robin Koch, Luis Sinisterra, Sam Greenwood and Sonny Perkins. He joined German side Gladbach on loan.
Since, he has started all eight of Gladbach’s games this season – finishing 90 minutes seven times. He is a crucial player for his loan club. But, reports have emerged this week over his permanent Leeds future.
The £10.5m signing is the subject of Leeds plans to keep him at Elland Road next season – but only, if Leeds manage to gain an instant return to the Premier League. That’s according to Sky Sports in Austria.
Leeds planning to keep Wober is bad news for captain Cooper
The Whites currently sit in fifth and look good under Daniel Farke – though, a run will be needed to catch the two front runners, in the form of Ipswich and Leicester. Liam Cooper’s future at Leeds is in doubt.
A report from TeamTalk states that Leeds and Farke are yet to make a decision on the future of Cooper and Stuart Dallas – with both seeing their deals expire in June. Cooper is not first choice at Leeds.
Pascal Struijk is first pick on the left side of central defence, while Joe Rodon is ahead of another in Charlie Cresswell on the right. Cooper was the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia, but he rejected it.
The skipper has been at Leeds since 2014. But if Leeds get promoted and keep Wober – with Struijk also on board – surely that is curtains for any chance of Cooper earning a new deal at Elland Road.
