Reports emerged on Friday that Premier League interest is mounting in Leeds United talent Archie Gray, and that has got to put The 49ers on red alert and sort out a new deal for him, immediately.

Gray, 17, has featured in 14 of our 15 Championship fixtures – starring in the middle of the park as well as at right-back. He has excelled for Leeds despite his age, Daniel Farke throwing his trust into the teen.

His form has caught the eye. A report from The Mail states that Liverpool are preparing a bid for Gray, and that Leeds have slapped a price tag on shoulders, of £50m. Everton and Crystal Palace are keen.

Leeds will not want to lose Gray. Not only is he a crucial part of the current Leeds side, but Gray is also a player with enormous potential. One that could be the future of this club, given the family connection.

So, with Premier League arousal coming to the fore, Leeds need to take action. What comes as a worry for Leeds fans is that Gray’s contract is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, at Elland Road.

Interest in Leeds United’s Archie Gray must put 49ers on red alert

It means that Gray is about to enter the last 18 months of his contract with us. Leeds must hand the midfielder a new deal as soon as possible, in order to deter the interest of some Premier League clubs.

But, Leeds must also match his ambitions. Gray will be delighted with his start to the season and he will hardly be looking at a move right now. However, it may prove hard to turn down if Liverpool come calling.

The 49ers cannot let things get to that stage and must hand the England U19 man a new deal before the temptation of a move to Anfield sits in. Promotion to the top tier would also help keep Gray at Leeds.
