TeamTalk report that Steve Evans is in line to take over at Sheffield Wednesday after the Owls sacked Xisco Munoz earlier this week – seven years after Evans left his post as Leeds United manager in 2016.
Munoz, 43, was sacked by Wednesday – after a 1-0 loss to Carlos Corberan’s West Brom. It comes after bizarrely replacing Darren Moore following promotion from League One. He was winless, after 12 games.
A whole host of managers with Championship experience are being linked. Nathan Jones, Dean Smith, Neil Warnock and Slaven Bilic. But TeamTalk report 60-year-old Evans is now a name being considered.
Evans has incredible experience in the Football League. Crawley, Rotherham, Mansfield, Peterborough, Gillingham and of course, Leeds – during Massimo Cellino’s reign. He lasted 38 games, in seven months.
Currently, he is manager of Stevenage. Evans guided his side to promotion from League Two last term, finishing in second. He is impressing, and Wednesday have taken note of the experienced Scottish boss.

Evans has built something formidable at Stevenage. Promotion in his first full season, and impressing in League One – guiding his side to an impressive fifth in the third tier after 11 league games, winning five.
While he might not be the most attractive manager in terms of style, he will get Wednesday defensively solid. Leeds have already played host to Wednesday, but will go to Hillsborough on March 9, 2024.
Of the Cellino era, Evans enjoyed the second-most amount of games in the dugout of the six Cellino appointed. Only Garry Monk had more – and of course, Andrea Radrizzani came in halfway through.
So, while he was seen as a bit of a joke character – he actually did okay as Leeds manager, winning 14 of his 38 games in charge and only losing 12. Now, Leeds could come up against their old boss in March.
