Leeds United signing Glen Kamara has told Finnish outlet HS that Rangers mainstay Connor Goldson has made him a better player over the years – on, and off the pitch. Kamara made his debut on Saturday.
Kamara, 27, joined Leeds inside the last 48 hours of the transfer window – after a summer-long saga that saw Kamara linked with Leeds throughout. The 52-time Finland star signed a contract until 2027.
It sees Kamara leave Rangers after four and a half years at Ibrox, where he played 193 times – winning the league and getting to the final of the Europa League in 2021-22, eventually losing on penalties.
Leeds needed midfielders. Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Weston McKennie and Adam Forshaw all left in the summer. Ethan Ampadu came in. Leeds needed more. Kamara and Ilia Gruev join, for a combined £10m.
Kamara is renowned for his passing, his ability in transition and his work rate. His footballing intelligence, to read the game and intercept. But Kamara says £3m defender Goldson has made him a better player.
“Like a big brother to me. Helped me with everything; always being on time at the gym in the morning or after training. His level of demands is incredibly high. Made me more like him, which is a good thing.”

Goldson has been a lynchpin in that Rangers defence for many years now – so it comes as little surprise that he has helped Kamara improve. The likes of Goldson and James Tavernier will have improved many.
It bodes well for Leeds. If promotion is going to come around, then Leeds need high standards. Every player has to be on it, every week. The Championship is hard to get out of. Players like Kamara are key.
