Neil Warnock has told TalkSPORT on Thursday that he is excited to return to Elland Road with his Huddersfield side – and gave a promotion verdict on Leeds United and the other clubs that could rival Daniel Farke’s side in the race.
Leeds will be among the favourites to go straight back up due to the current squad, and the parachute payments. But, the Whites have still got plenty to iron out before Sunday’s opener and over the course of the next few weeks.
The need for a new centre-back, midfielder, no.10, left-back and a striker – and the futures of numerous players still in doubt. The 49ers need to get a wiggle on, though it was likely that most of the business would happen in August.
So, attention turns to Sunday. Leeds face Cardiff at Elland Road and the atmosphere will be good, the start of a new era. Ex-Leeds boss Warnock gave his take on our chances of promotion – talking to TalkSPORT, as per Leeds Live.

“You can’t look any further than the three relegated teams. Look at the money that they’ve spent – I know Leicester has sold James Maddison but they spent about £20million on players, Leeds, Southampton look a good side.
“The three of them, my old club Middlesbrough, they should have gone up really so they’ll not be far away. I’m really looking forward to it, Elland Road with a full house – they’ll be rocking. Leicester will expect everything as well.”

Leeds will be up there. What has been impressive, so far, is that Leeds have kept the players they perhaps wanted to keep – apart from one, in the form of Max Wober. There will be more sales at Elland Road before the deadline.
But Leeds will want to keep Tyler Adams, Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison and Cree Summerville. If the club get rid of players like Illan Meslier, Junior Firpo – the fine. But selling the previous five would come as a blow.
