Nation’s media says Leeds star was ‘nervy’ for his country this week, ‘needed to be bailed out’

Joe Rodon has made an impressive start to life at Leeds United since joining us on a loan deal from Tottenham – but Wales Online were critical of his display for his nation against South Korea on Thursday.

Rodon, 25, has played in our last three Championship matches – helping us keep a clean sheet against Sheffield Wednesday. The Wales ace has struck up a solid partnership in defence with Pascal Struijk.

His form is keeping the impressive Charlie Cresswell on the bench as things stand. On Thursday night, the ex-Swansea man won his 38th Wales cap against a South Korea side captained by Son Heung-min.

Rodon played the entire 90 minutes – his fourth time this season – as he helped keep a clean sheet during the 0-0 draw at The Cardiff City Stadium. But, it wasn’t a particularly good display from Rodon.

Indeed, while outlet Wales Online gave Rodon a 7/10 rating, they say: “Had a couple of nervy moments where he needed to be bailed out by his team-mates, but Leeds United loan man stood up well.”

It is minutes in the tank for Rodon and ultimately, he helped keep a clean sheet against a side that boasts Tottenham’s in-form captain – who netted a hat-trick last weekend, in a 5-2 win over Burnley.

No injuries though, for Rodon or Ampadu and that is good news for Leeds and Daniel Farke. Wales go to Latvia on Monday night in a crucial European qualifier. Hopefully, there won’t be any injuries there either.

Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara were also in action on Thursday. The latter came on for Finland as they won 1-0 against Kazakhstan. Gruev played in defence for Bulgaria – as they lost 1-0 to Iran at home.
