Brenden Aaronson scored his eighth goal for the US National Men’s Team on Wednesday morning and USA media were impressed with the out-on-loan Leeds United man – as he played the second half.
Aaronson, 22, came on at half-time and scored directly from a free-kick – a bit of a bizarre one. His low effort beat the wall and had a bit of pace on it – but it was straight at the goalkeeper. Still, it went in.
It put USA 2-0 up and the game beyond any doubt. His side went on to win 4-0. Aaronson of course has left Leeds to join German side Union Berlin – which sees him to return to play in the Champions League.
But of course, he has a contract at Leeds until 2027 – and a loan at Union is without a permanent option. So, there is a chance that playmaker Aaronson does return to Elland Road at the end of the current term.
He has made a tricky start at Union but Wednesday’s display will perhaps be a kickstart, especially after a red card for Union. US media praised him – as MLS Soccer’s website gave their verdict on his display.
“He expectedly covered every blade of grass after entering, providing his typical burst of energy, as well as a (somewhat fortunate) free-kick that snuck through the wall, past a helpless Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini.”

A flukey goal but Aaronson was impressive even without his goal. The kind of game that would see him thrive, getting on the ball and looking to break opposing sides down. Aaronson certainly has potential.
Whether he gets the chance to show that at Leeds remains to be seen. But he does have the talent, time on his side and a contract for another four years at Elland Road. He could still be a wonderful addition.
