Swedish media outlet Fotboll Skanalen have raved about Coventry City star Viktor Gyokeres after the Leeds United transfer target was handed his first competitive start for Sweden on Monday, scoring in a 5-0 win over Azerbaijan.
Gyokeres, 24, is enjoying a wonderful season. Having a hand in 26 goals in 38 Championship games, scoring 18 himself, the Swedish ace was handed a start against Azerbaijan on Monday night – nabbing an assist, and a goal.
He held the ball up well before feeding Emil Forsberg to open the scoring, driving through midfield to calmly slot in the opener. Gyokeres was involved in the second, before finding the back of the net himself to score Sweden’s third.
A good night for Gyokeres, who now returns to England as he tries to help Coventry make a late push for the play-offs. The chances are though, that Mark Robins’ side miss out – and Gyokeres requests a move come the summer.
Indeed, the striker is in the final 18 months of his contract and if Coventry fail to gain promotion this season – they will have to cash in on Gyokeres in order to bring in some money. TeamTalk say Leeds want the £25m-rated striker.

Leeds scouts will have been impressed by his display on Monday night, and so were Swedish media. Fotboll Skanalen handed him his side’s best rating, four stars out of five, before describing him as just what Sweden need.
“Just what Sweden needed. Showed will, involved in the first three goals. Strong and good with his body, paved the way for both 1-0 and 2-0, heading the ball down to Forsberg at 1-0 and to Isak at 2-0. Then he made it 3-0 himself.”

There will have been scouts watching and Leeds will have taken note, more likely than not. If they were watching, then Gyokeres will have certainly convinced those in attendance that he has what it takes to impress in the top tier.
Although it was against Azerbaijan, you could tell Gyokeres was a class above. He did not look out of place in an attack that included Leipzig’s Forsberg, Tottenham star Deki Kulusevski and Newcastle’s £60m man Alex Isak.
