Didier Domi has told BeIN Sports he does not understand why VAR did not intervene during the 2-2 draw between Leeds United and Manchester United – when discussing an incident involving Lisando Martinez and Patrick Bamford.
Willy Gnonto got managerless Leeds – under caretaker charge of Michael Skubala – off to a flyer at Old Trafford. A brilliant finish from the edge of the box gave the Whites the lead. A Raphael Varane own goal saw Leeds go 2-0 up.
But goals from England duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho saw Manchester United draw level. In the end, a 2-2 draw was probably a fair result – though Leeds will be disappointed they did not hold on to all three points last night.
Towards the end of the first half, Bamford and Martinez were involved in an incident. After an aerial collision that left both on the gronnd, replays showed Martinez cheekily planting his boot in Bamford’s face, not just once, but twice.
Domi, who spent the 2003-04 season on loan at Leeds – gave his view at half-time on BeIN Sports. The Frenchman said that Martinez knew exactly what he was doing, saying it was “nasty” and “malicious” and VAR should have intervened.
“He knows exactly what he’s doing. It’s malicious, it’s nasty, it should’ve been a red card. I can’t believe it hasn’t gone to VAR,” Domi told BeIN Sports at the halfway stage of Wednesday night’s draw between Leeds and Manchester United.

It is a bizarre one. There is no way Martinez has accidentally planted his boot in Bamford’s face. It might have been seen as an accident the first time, but he then digs it further into Bamford’s face. Martinez has a past of this aggression.
The incident should have been viewed by VAR and the referee told to go to the monitor and have another look at the incident. It is unlikely he saw the incident initially. A shocking bit of bad sportsmanship, synonymous with Martinez.
