Michael Owen believes Leeds United and Leicester City have endured a “horrific” weekend in terms of Premier League results – and predicts an “absolute grandstand” finish to the season, with Leeds now sitting in 19th place.

The weekend actually started quite well for Leeds. While a loss to Manchester City was always expected, the Whites put up a good fight against the Premier League champions and only suffered a 2-1 loss to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Then, on Sunday, Fulham battered Leicester to win 5-3. A great result for Leeds. But for Leeds and indeed Leicester, it got a whole lot worse. Everton came out of nowhere to smash Brighton 5-1. Then, Forest beat Southampton 4-3.

Two results that have plunged Leeds into the bottom three, having started the weekend in 17th place. Following the weekend’s results, Owen gave his verdict. He said it has been “horrific” for Leeds and Leicester – with all to play for.

“Not a good day at all for Leeds or Leicester, horrific. I look at those fixtures, points on the board are so important. They aren’t going to be many points, I feel, won out of those sets of fixtures. There are a lot of tough run-ins now.

“Only three games to go – the next two games, I can hardly see any points. But the last game, for all of them, are probably where points will be. It could be an absolute grandstand finish,” Owen told Premier League Productions.

Do Leeds have a realistic chance? The run in for all teams looks tricky. Everton have to take on Manchester City next time out, and with that is likely to come defeat. So, Leeds have the chance to take advantage this weekend.

But, Leeds face Newcastle and while it is at Elland Road and the Toon suffered defeat last time out, Eddie Howe’s men remain the third-best team in the league. So, it will be a tough one. Even a point would be a decent result.

Leicester play Liverpool and Forest are away to Chelsea. So, if Leeds can get a result, there is a good chance that Leeds could be one of four sides to get a result. Leeds desperately need a win, in their penultimate home game.
