Michael Bridges says Leeds will finish in top two, if we can keep four crucial positions available

Michael Bridges has told Leeds United’s official podcast that the club look good to finish in the top two places in the Championship – if, Leeds can keep hold of the players in the front four positions this term.

Leeds have made a solid start to life back in the Championship. Just one loss in eight league games so far, ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against Southampton – who have lost four games in a row.

Four clean sheets in a row, with a 3-0 win over Watford coming last time out. Leeds look strong, with strength in depth and after the calamity of the transfer window is over – focus is now back on the pitch.

Ex-Leeds striker Bridges was discussing Leeds on the club’s latest LUTV podcast and says that he is confident Leeds can finish in the top two – if, the club can keep the players currently playing in attack.

“I’ve made a massive comment. If we can keep the front four players, positions, with the depth we have – we will be a top-two team. Goals all over the place,” Bridges said this week, on the LUTV podcast.

“Defence organised, midfielder is well-balanced and I am getting excited about this season. It is an early call from me, as long as we keep those positions. We’ll be a force to be reckoned with,” Bridges added.

Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter are the first names on the team sheet when it comes to picking players in Daniel Farke’s front four, of his 4-2-3-1 system. Piroe in the middle of the three, Rutter a lone striker.

They start. Piroe is not going anywhere in terms of a transfer – having only just joined. Rutter was the subject of a £25m Dortmund bid in the summer, but he has a contract until 2028 and looks very happy.

Out wide, options. Jaidon Anthony, Cree Summerville and Dan James are options at the moment while Willy Gnonto remains on the sidelines until the October international break. The latter has been linked.

Clubs could come in for the Italian in January. But Anthony is on loan and James is going nowhere. It looks pretty good for those six players to stay put, and Bridges thinks that could see us go back up.
