Junior Firpo has returned to the fold at Leeds United after a difficult start to 23-24 and sparkled in a Whites shirt, especially going forward – and Michael Bridges says Daniel Farke is a big fan of his.

The 27-year-old came into the 23-24 season having only managed 51 outings for Leeds in his first two seasons. Injuries, a lack of momentum and subsequent poor form the reason for his minimal game time.

Firpo missed the first three months of the season due to a knee injury. He missed the first 16 games in league and cup. But he was on the bench at Leicester, and has started the last seven league matches.

Seven of which, Leeds have won – picking up six clean sheets. In that time too, Firpo has laid on five assists – including Patrick Bamford’s goal on Saturday against Rotherham. The £13m man is finally back.

Showing the kind of form that tempted Leeds to sign him, back in 2021. Michael Bridges spoke about Firpo on the Leeds United preview show before Tuesday night’s massive 4-0 win over Swansea City.

“A guy that I really, really admire is Junior Firpo. There was talk, was he going to leave, was he going to get game time? Daniel Farke is a big fan. That [Bamford, on Saturday] was another assist. Relentless.”

Firpo has been excellent. Since the turn of the year, a number of Leeds players have come into the side having been on the fringes during the first half of the season – helping Leeds go on a run of seven wins.

Ilia Gruev, Willy Gnonto and Patrick Bamford have all come into the side after struggling for game time during the first half of the season – and sparkled. Gruev has been a revelation for us, in recent games.

Bamford won the January Player of the Month award at Leeds, while Gnonto took his tally for the season to five last night – four of which have come since the turn of the year. Strength in depth.
