Michael Bridges told the Leeds United Matchday Live show that Glen Kamara has not arrived at the club to simply sit on the bench and “make the numbers up” – after he started his first game on Saturday.
Kamara, 27, had come on as a sub in games against Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall, but only for a few minutes. He was an unused sub in the 0-0 draw at Hull. But he came in on Saturday, at home to Watford.
The 54-time Finland man impressed alongside Ethan Ampadu. While he did not do anything to make him instantly stand out, he went about his business with calmness and composure – exuding his experience.
Bridges spoke before the 3-0 win – in which Joel Piroe, Sam Byram and Jaidon Anthony got the goals – and he said that Kamara has not left a club like Rangers to sit on the bench. He is pushing Archie Gray.
“You do not want to wear the kid [Gray] out. Kamara comes in, he’s not come from Rangers to just make the numbers up and sit on the bench. He is pushing Archie. I’m a fan of his, I like him,” Bridges said.

Kamara is a player that has played in the Europa League final. A midfielder that has been fighting for trophies north of the border and winning them too, leaving Ibrox with a league title and a Scottish Cup.
So, as Bridges rightly points out, he has not come here simply to play back-up. He will want to show how good he is and Saturday was a very solid start. Gray is first choice, but Kamara is applying pressure.
