Michael Bridges says Tottenham Hotspur man Djed Spence would be a “great signing” for Leeds United – when asked about the possible arrival during his role as co-commentator on Sky Sports on Tuesday.
Leeds were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round on Tuesday night, despite having a total of 33 shots and 16 corners against Salford. The game ended 1-1, and Leeds were beaten on pens.
In the mean time, Leeds were closing in on the £1m loan signing of Spence from Spurs. Phil Hay claimed on The Athletic’s transfer blog that Spence was joining Leeds – and he had travelled to have a medical.
Spence looks set to be the club’s next signing, our sixth senior addition of the summer. Ex-Leeds man Bridges was asked during commentary of Tuesday night’s match what he thought of Spence signing.
“I hope you’re right [Spence is on his way to Leeds], because he’d be a great signing for Leeds. A fellow Tottenham teammate of Joe Rodon. Would be a great bit of business,” Bridges said, on signing Spence.

Spence is a top player at this level. One with experience, and the know how to get out of the second tier – having done so through the play-offs with Nottingham Forest. He immediately becomes first choice.
But, his arrival means there needs to be a shake up in terms of right-back options. Jamie Shackleton was superb on Tuesday night despite his missed penalty. Luke Ayling has made a solid start to 23-24.
So, it looks as if Cody Drameh will depart. His deal ends next summer, and he has attracted interest in his services. Leeds will want to keep Ayling, and Shackleton is versatile. Drameh is the one to be sold.
