Micah Richards has told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of the best he’s seen when it comes to one-on-one defending – amid reports Leeds are interested in him.

Wan-Bissaka, 25, has been in and out of the Manchester United side this season – playing less than half of his side’s 54 games. Injury, and Diego Dalot’s form, has limited his game time. He starred in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

A 0-0 draw that Manchester United won on penalties saw Wan-Bissaka win duels with Brighton’s danger man Kaoru Mitoma, time after time. It saw Wan-Bissaka earn praise from Tuesday night opponent James Maddison on Twitter.

Richards has briefly mentioned Wan-Bissaka in his analysis on Monday night. Agreeing with Maddison, Richards said that the ex-Palace star is one of the best he has ever seen when it comes to defending one-on-one moments.

“We talk about Wan-Bissaka, and a lot of people say he is not good enough for Manchester United. But one-on-one defending, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen,” Richards said. 90Min said in December that Leeds were interested.

Richards: Wan-Bissaka one of the best he’s seen amid Leeds reports

A move for Wan-Bissaka seems unlikely. His current deal does end in the summer of 2024, but Manchester United have the option to extend for another 12 months. He remains an important part of ten Hag’s side at the moment.

Leeds could be in the market for a right-back. Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen have dipped in and out of form this season, while Cody Drameh has impressed at Luton but his future is in doubt. Wan-Bissaka is an improvement.

But it is more than likely he remains at Old Trafford, especially after his wonderful display against Brighton on the weekend, at Wembley. Leeds will certainly be interested though, if we stay up – and he is put on the transfer list.
