Max Wober says he misses Jesse Marsch, admits he was the reason he joined Leeds

Max Wober has told Sky Sports in Austria that he misses Jesse Marsch and admitted that his move to Leeds United was because of the American gaffer – having worked with Marsch during the duo’s time together at RedBull Salzburg.

Wober, 25, has instantly become an integral part of our side, partnering Robin Koch in the middle of the defence. Even the change in manager has not stopped Wober from starting matches for Leeds, and being a mainstay in the back four.

The Austria international though, worked with Marsch at Salzburg after previous spells with Ajax and Sevilla. It saw him become captain of Salzburg – and Marsch’s presence at Leeds was the ultimate reason why Wober picked Elland Road.

Not long after Wober’s arrival, and Marsch was gone. Leeds sit in 17th place in the Premier League table. Javi Gracia saw his side beat Southampton, but then lose to Chelsea. Wober gave his take on Marsch’s exit back in February.

“Of course I miss Jesse. I made this move because he was keen to bring me to Leeds. But that’s the business of football, everything can change. If the successes don’t come, the coach is the first to vacate the pitch,” Wober told Sky Sports.

Things change quickly in football and Wober, like his Leeds teammates, will be striving to pull Leeds out of the mire they currently find themselves in. Another tricky test lies ahead of Leeds, in the form of Brighton at Elland Road.

But the quality is certainly there, in this Leeds side. Rodrigo is edging towards a return to action and Wober will be pivotal in the fight against the drop. But you would expect that if Leeds go down, he will be on his way out of Leeds.
