Max Wober has heaped praise on Michael Skubala and told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the Leeds United interim boss has done a really good job in the last week.
Leeds, of course, are preparing for their third game with Skubala in charge. The Englishman oversaw the back-to-back fixtures against Manchester United after Jesse Marsch was sacked last Monday.
The decision came with Leeds edging closer to the relegation zone in the Premier League. Skubala is still awaiting a first win. But the two performances since Marsch’s departure have been encouraging.
Wober praises interim Leeds boss Skubala
He will remain in charge for the upcoming fixtures. And that is a massive decision with Everton and Southampton lying ahead for the Whites.
But it appears that the decision has gone down well with the players. Wober has more reason than most to be upset about Marsch’s exit. He was only reunited with the American when he arrived in Yorkshire in January. And he has been a shining light in recent times.
However, Wober was full of praise for the way Skubala has handled the task.
“I’ve never seen him stressed,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Normally, when like now the second team coach takes over, it’s also a big chance for him and it’s a big role, he has to step up, but he’s always been calm. He was sure how he wants us to play.
“And I think you could also see that in our performances that we just knew what to do. And then we were confident how we want to play and I think he does a really good job.”
Of course, Skubala will be under no illusions. Had Leeds’ manager search gone to plan, he would probably be back working with the under-21s by now.
And he is going to have to do incredibly well to stake a claim for the job on a long-term basis. But the early signs are reassuring.
Leeds took a 2-0 lead at Manchester United little more than 48 hours after Marsch was sacked. And the Whites were extremely impressive in the reverse fixture at Elland Road.
In some ways, Saturday’s clash with Everton could have a massive impact on how the club approach the rest of the season.
Should Leeds win and produce an impressive performance at Goodison Park, a bit of the pressure will be taken off the board.
The good news is that the mood in the camp appears to be positive heading into such a crucial fixture.
