Mauricio Pochettino has got Brenden Aaronson doing something for first time after teammate’s subtle dig

Brenden Aaronson is now working with a higher calibre of coach at the international level than he is with Daniel Farke at Leeds United.

Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as the USMNT coach should be music to the ears of the Leeds star because his career has had a few sticky spells.

But now Aaronson can really kick on in his career, especially given that he returned to Elland Road this summer and is trying to prove his worth to his fans.

The 23-year-old was signed in 2022 when Leeds were in the Premier League, but then the team dropped back into the Championship and Aaronson was loaned to Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

One of the reasons behind Leeds’ relegation was their recruitment at that time and Aaronson was part of that, so he now has a lot of people to win over.

Perhaps the time he spends with Pochettino with the US men’s national team will help because there seem to be huge changes happening across the pond.

Gregg Berhalter was the man in the dugout before Pochettino and it’s fair to say that he wasn’t exactly the most popular man in the American ‘soccer’ scene.

Former Fulham defender Tim Ream, who is now playing in the MLS with Dean Smith’s Charlotte side, has been on the international stage for well over a decade.

And he seemed to aim a subtle dig at the previous manager by telling USMNT Only that he has been involved in the ‘longest training sessions’ he has had with the USMNT.

This is a benefit to Leeds because, for the first time in Aaronson’s international career, he is being worked to such demanding standards.

“We were out on the field for two hours which is probably the longest training session I’ve had with the USMNT in my 14 years,” revealed Ream.

Is Brenden Aaronson getting overworked by Mauricio Pochettino amid Leeds’ injury woes?

One of the big issues facing Farke is that he has a host of injuries to deal with in midfield and it isn’t going to get any easier for the rest of the year.

That’s why there is talk of Leeds signing Cheikhou Kouyate as a free agent after he left Nottingham Forest in the summer.

USMNT face Mexico in a friendly on Wednesday after beating Panama in Pochettino’s debut game.

The former Chelsea boss has decided to let a few of his senior players leave the camp – star man Christian Pulisic, Leeds flop Weston McKennie and recent goalscorer Ricardo Pepi, with injury worries and fitness cited.

Leeds fans have every right to argue that Aaronson should perhaps be allowed to leave too given their problems and the fact that he is being overworked.
