Mateusz Bogusz has told a press conference – as per LAFC’s YouTube channel – Mateusz Klich helped convince him over to join the MLS champions, after a move that saw Bogusz leave Leeds permanently was confirmed last week.
Bogusz, 21, ended up spending four years on the books at Leeds. Having joined in January 2019, he initially started in the club’s second string. Then, he went on loan to Logrones in Spain in his second year – but failed to impress.
In his third full season at Leeds, he went on loan to Ibiza and initially started well – having a hand in 11 goals in 22 games. But, midway through the season, he suffered an ACL injury. He returned for rehab, before returning to Ibiza.
This season, he struggled to replicate his prior form – scoring just two goals in 24 games for the second-tier side. With his contract at Leeds ending in the summer, he has completed a permanent move to MLS champions LAFC.
Bogusz spoke to the media this week, following his move from Leeds to LAFC – in which he has had his Ibiza loan cancelled. He says that he spoke to Klich – who left Leeds in January for DC United – and Klich helped convince him.

“I spoke to Mateusz Klich at DC United, I played with him at Leeds United. He told me it is a great opportunity, they said LAFC is the best because they won the League last season. He helped convince me to join here,” Bogusz said.

Klich has made a solid start to life at DC United, where he is playing under Wayne Rooney. He even scored on his debut. Bogusz will be hoping to make a similar impact in a side that are one of the favourites to win the MLS title.
It will see him play alongside Italy legend Giorgio Chiellini, and MLS superstar Carlos Vela – who eagle-eyed Premier League fans will remember from his Arsenal days. Of course, he went on to shine for Real Sociedad in La Liga.
Bogusz has huge potential and talent and it is more than likely we will see him back in European football at some point. But, for now, Bogusz will be focusing on getting back to the standard he was setting before his injury.
