It was a disappointing weekend for Leeds United as supporters watched their side suffer a 3-1 loss to Chelsea on Saturday evening. But for the club’s on-loan stars it was a different story – namely Alfie McCalmont and Mateusz Bogusz who both found the back of the net.

Despite making his debut and playing in the Under-23 side as a holding midfield, 20-year-old McCalmont has surprised many with three goals in 10 appearances for League Two Oldham – who are managed by Harry Kewell. His first two goals came in the form of a brace during an EFL Trophy win over Stuart McCall’s Bradford City – where Bryce Hosannah is currently on loan.

He then scored in League Two football proper. Posting on his Instagram story (below), McCalmont scored the winner in a 2-1 victory over Cambridge United. On the hour mark, the Northern Ireland midfielder capitalised on a loose ball in the opposition penalty area – lashing a right-footed effort into the back of the net.

He was not the only Leeds loanee to get his name on the score sheet over the weekend. Poland Under-21 star Bogusz has made an excellent start on loan with second-tier Spanish side Logrones and has now netted his first senior goal – with his effort against Western Sydney Wanderers for Leeds coming in a non-competitive fixture.

His penalty, which opened the scoring against Rayo Vallecano, proved to be ineffective come the final whistle. Rayo earned a 2-1 win, overcoming Bogusz’s opener but it was more proof that the 19-year-old has a big future ahead of him. He has now started Longrones’ last four league games, having struggled to get in the starting XI to begin with.
