The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Jesse Marsch teased in-form Leeds star Sam Greenwood in training on Monday – after the midfielder scored three ‘outrageous’ free-kicks at the end of Monday’s training session in Valencia this week.
Greenwood, 20, has had to be patient for his chance under Marsch this season. It comes after impressing during the final day of last season, a 2-1 win over Brentford. He managed just three late sub outings up until October 23.
But he started against Fulham as Marsch made a couple of alterations. But his turning point came when hopping off the bench against Bournemouth – helping Leeds secure a superb comeback to win 4-3. Scoring one, creating another.
The youngster is renowned for his ability from free-kicks. Following Monday’s session, he and Darko Gyabi remained behind after the session was over to practice their free-kicks, with Dani van den Heuvel going in goal for the drill.
It came after doing pitch-long sprints, in order to keep the fitness up of the Leeds players. Greenwood struck three ‘outrageous’ free-kicks into the net and onlooking Marsch joked: “You’re better when you’re tired,” as per the YEP.

Greenwood is finally starting to come good at Leeds. His form in 21’s has deserved more game time but it has only just started coming his way. Able to play in midfield, attacking midfield or striker – he offers versatility at Elland Road.
Will Greenwood get a start against Manchester City? Unlikely, but if Tyler Adams is deemed unfit in the next couple of weeks then Greenwood could get his chance. Marsch is clearly impressed with the Old Arsenal academy graduate.
The Whites face a Manchester City side that waved goodbye to 16 of their first-team players to the World Cup. Leeds, only three. All three have been knocked out of the competition in Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and Adams.
