Jesse Marsch sent an individual message to each of the Leeds United squad to thank them for their efforts after he was sacked by the Whites last week, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Marsch was dismissed a week ago in the wake of Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The decision came with the Whites just outside the relegation zone in the Premier League. The last win meanwhile, had come before the World Cup.
It seemed to be the right call from the Leeds board – even if their attempts to appoint a new manager have been almost comical so far.
Marsch reached out to every Leeds player individually after sacking
Marsch, unfortunately, was failing to take the side forward after keeping the team up on the final day of last season. Leeds were making the same errors on a consistent basis. And another relegation battle was on the cards.
However, Marsch is clearly a brilliant person. And Leeds fans would have been delighted had it worked for the American at Elland Road.
He did amazingly well to galvanise the team in the wake of Marcelo Bielsa’s departure. And you would imagine that the players did enjoy working under him.
Certainly, he has further proved his class in the days since his departure was announced. The Daily Mail reports that he missed the chance to address the squad as his sacking came after training had already finished.
With that, he contacted every player individually in the Leeds squad to thank them for their work.
It is a real shame that Marsch’s tenure did not work out. It really did feel like the fans were largely on board heading into the summer. They wanted to see what he could do with his players and without the threat of a relegation battle hanging over him.
A bright start hinted that he was going to be an inspired appointment. However, Leeds never kicked on from that 3-0 thrashing of Chelsea. There would only be two more league wins before his departure.
The challenge now, is to appoint someone capable of keeping us up and then ensuring that we are not in the same boat once again in 12 months.
