Benoit Delaval, Leeds United’s fitness coach during the Marcelo Bielsa era, has reacted on Twitter with one word after the Whites were relegated from the Premier League – losing 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Leeds were already doomed going into the final weekend. But Sam Allardyce’s side needed a win, and had to hope that Bournemouth beat Everton, and Leicester failed to beat West Ham. Leeds suffered a dismal 4-1 home defeat.

Even if Leeds had won, it would not have been enough. Everton secured safety with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, Abdoulaye Doucoure’s gorgeous strike enough. Leicester beat West Ham 2-1, but they join Leeds in going down.

Delaval, who is currently working as performance director at impressive Ligue 1 side Lens – who have just qualified for the Champions League – reacted on Twitter. He joined Leeds after Bielsa’s arrival, after working together at Lille.

The Frenchman remained at Leeds right up until Bielsa’s exit in February 2022. Eagle-eyed Leeds fans will know Delaval was the man who accompanied Liam Cooper to pick up Bielsa’s FairPlay award. He reacted on Twitter.

It does see all of Bielsa’s hard work undone. Of course, relegation is always a threat but it is hard to see how Leeds have improved and pushed on from the decision to sack him in February 2022. Leeds have gone backwards.

Where do Leeds go now? Well, what is clear, is that there is so much work to do and Leeds have got to get it done quickly. A takeover, a sporting director, a manager and player turnover. Things must be put in place very quickly.

The first thing that must be done, is sorting out the board room and from that point on in, decisions can be made lower down. Victor Orta and Sam Allardyce’s replacements can be brought in and in turn, players decided.
