Erik ten Hag has told Tuesday’s Manchester United press conference – as per the Manchester Evening News – that it was “sad” to see Leeds United sack Jesse Marsch, questioning why clubs do not give managers more time in the role.
Marsch, 49, lost his job at Elland Road on Monday after we suffered a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest. While there is admiration for Marsch – many Leeds fans think it was the right time for Leeds to sack him. Manchester United are next.
Leeds have now won just two Premier League games since August, the last being a 4-3 win over Bournemouth on the 5th of November. Now, the club are on the lookout for a new manager – but an appointment will be later this week.
Asked about Leeds sacking Marsch, ten Hag gave his verdict – ahead of facing Leeds at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. He will come up against Michael Skubala in the Leeds dugout – flanked by Chris Armas, as Paco Gallardo.
“It’s always sad if a manager is a colleague, gets sacked, so in general I don’t believe in it, that you sack a manager and get better results, most of the time it doesn’t work. Let the manager finish their work and make a good evaluation.
“But the pressure is high with decision makers at football and they turn. But if you see the facts, most of the time it doesn’t work out well,” ten Hag told Tuesday’s presser ahead of Wednesday, as per the Manchester Evening News.

It is an interesting point raised by ten Hag. His claim that clubs sacking managers before they have finished their stint at a club is wrong. But ultimately, ten Hag has come in to replace Ralf Rangnick at Old Trafford – and that is working.
Marsch came in for Marcelo Bielsa last season, and it worked – keeping us in the Premier League. He is struggling to turn performances into results. It is probably the right time for his exit. It will be interesting to see who Leeds bring in.
