Jesse Marsch was sacked by Leeds United little over a year ago and a whole host of names were linked with the Elland Road vacancy as a replacement for the American – and one, was Arne Slot.
The 45-year-old had impressed before the links with Leeds. Guiding Feyenoord, with Luis Sinisterra in his side, to the final of the first-ever Conference League – only to lose to Jose Mourinho and AS Roma.
Linked with Leeds in February 2023 after the sacking of Marsch, journalist Marcel van der Kraan said that he wanted to move to Elland Road – and Leeds made a bid that was worth between £5m and £6m.
But it wasn’t enough, and Slot remained with Feyenoord. A decision that has ultimately proved to work in his favour. Leeds got relegated, and he guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title. 88 wins in 139 games.
Last summer, he was also linked with Tottenham before Ange Postecoglou moved south of the border from Celtic to Spurs. Slot is now expected to leave Feyenoord come the end of the current campaign.
Bayern eye Arne Slot just 18 months after Leeds United links
Over at Bayern Munich, things are not great. Thomas Tuchel’s side are failing to keep pace with the super Leverkusen, who are being coached by Xabi Alonso. Thomas Tuchel is under huge pressure.
He is already confirmed to be leaving the German champions at the end of the season – and Bayern will be on the lookout for a new manager. Liverpool-linked Alonso is also a contender for the Bayern job.
But, a report from German outlet AZ say that Slot is also a contender for the Bayern gig, just 18 months on from being linked with – and keen on – a move to Leeds. Clearly, Slot is earning himself a reputation.
