Kalvin Phillips filled the hearts of Leeds United fans with pride and joy on Tuesday afternoon, after he became the first Leeds player to be announced in an England squad for a major tournament since 2002. The Three Lions confirmed that Phillips will wear the no.14 shirt – and plenty responded.

Phillips, 25, has enjoyed a brilliant year. Breaking into the England side before Leeds had even played in the Premier League, Phillips then helped Leeds gain promotion. He has been the beating heart of the club’s incredible ninth-placed finish this season – and is now an England regular.

He has now clocked up seven England caps, and Phillips is joined by Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson and Jude Bellingham as options in the middle of the park. While he might not be a starter for Gareth Southgate’s side, he is likely to get game time. He posted on Instagram after being confirmed.

Leeds teammate Ayling responded with a brilliant comment on the Instagram post (above) – telling Phillips he will send him his address to get an England shirt with the midfielder’s name and number. Leeds legend Whelan also commented, highlighting how prestigious his inclusion is.
