Archie Gray could be handed his professional debut on Sunday afternoon when Leeds United play host to Cardiff City at Elland Road, after impressing in pre-season – and Luke Ayling has delivered an exciting prediction on Gray.
The 17-year-old started two of our four pre-season games – and came on in the other two against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. He impressed in starts against Monaco, and then against Hearts, our last friendly.
So, Gray could be in the middle of the park with Ethan Ampadu this weekend. Tyler Adams is still injured, but Darko Gyabi will also fancy his chances. Jamie Shackleton is an option but the academy product should be on the bench.
Leeds posted a series of pictures of our main stars on Instagram, like Ayling, Liam Cooper, new signing Ampadu, our no.10 Crysencio Summerville and defender Pascal Struijk. Our new no.22, in Gray, was also posted on Instagram.
Archie Gray could get Leeds debut: Luke Ayling gives exciting prediction
Ben Parker actually thinks Gray will be given the nod by Daniel Farke. The German manager also spoke about Gray in his latest press conference – making it clear the teen will not be given any special praise; he will get tough love.
His raw talent, his impressive physique for his age and Gray’s ability to contribute to the attack makes him the ideal partner for Ampadu in the middle of the park – with the Wales star much more inclined to sit deep and help defend.
Leeds have got to get a win today, in order to start the season well – and Gray could play a big role in helping us do that. Ayling reacted to Leeds’ post of Gray on Instagram, commenting a six-word prediction on Gray’s 23-24 term.
