Jesse Marsch is under intense scrutiny. A winless run of seven games in the Premier League has cast doubt over his future as manager. But comments from Luis Sinisterra show why it is right to keep Marsch at Leeds, for the time being.

A 2-0 loss on Thursday night to Leicester at the King Power was arguably, the worst of the lot. Yes, Leeds shipped five goals to Brentford in a 5-2 defeat, but many had expected Leeds to struggle in London. At Leicester, there was hope.

Leicester were bottom of the table. Leeds, meanwhile, came into the game off the back of a spirited performance in which Marsch had masterminded a performance that should really have got something from a game against Arsenal.

But Leeds were lacklustre. Hopeless in defence, wasteful in possession, and blunt in attack. Marsch made four changes to his side against Leicester and none of them worked. So, the pressure on our American gaffer makes sense.

However, sacking him is a stretch. He kept us in the division last term, helped Victor Orta make some top signings, and got off to a superb start. Now, Sinisterra’s comments to VoetbalZone show why for now at least, he has got to stay.

“I am doing very well. The welcome here was very warm. Jesse immediately expressed his confidence in me. It feels like home. I have found my place with Leeds and Colombia. I have gained more confidence, so I started to play better.”

Sinisterra has started well. At 23, he might have been excused for a period of adaptation at Elland Road. But, the winger has been in superb form – scoring three goals in his nine games. He hit the bar against Leicester, too.

Marsch has been crucial to fast-tracking that adaptation process. Integrating the ex-Feyenoord winger and installing confidence in him, to get the best out of him. That is one of Marsch’s positives. Making his players feel confident.

Leeds have now plans in place to sack Marsch. Graham Smyth reported on the Yorkshire Evening Post’s website that the stance of the Leeds board is to place their faith in Marsch. However, defeat to Fulham could change that.

Of course, defeats and poor performances will reduce that confidence. But now is not the time to be rash. Now is the time to place faith in the project and remind ourselves that Marsch and these players are fighting for eachother.
