Lucy Ward reacts on Twitter as Jesse Marsch closes in on Leicester job

Lucy Ward has probably summed up how a lot of Leeds United fans feel after hearing that Leicester City are closing in on appointing Jesse Marsch as their new manager.

Leicester are in big trouble this season. A home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday leaves them second-bottom. They are only two points off safety. But their recent form and the fact that it was the Cherries who beat them is a real worry for the Foxes.

But Leicester are closing in on their next manager. According to The Athletic, Jesse Marsch is set to be given the job, and he is prepared to stay even if they fall into the Championship.

Of course, Leeds fans will have some strong opinions on the idea of Marsch going in at the King Power Stadium. He left the club in February with the Whites sliding further and further down the table.

And Lucy Ward has taken to Twitter to give her view on the news that Marsch is set to get the Leicester gig.

The former Whites striker was clearly surprised to see Marsch – who also came close to taking over at Southampton – in contention for the role…

Of course, we have to be wary of speaking too soon. Leicester could be out of the bottom three after their next game because of how close it is down the bottom. And crucially, Leeds are not out of danger yet.

But you would imagine that plenty of Leeds supporters will not be overly concerned about the Foxes if Marsch goes in.

He did oversee our survival push last season. However, many – rightly or wrongly – will give Raphinha more credit for keeping Leeds up than the American.

Ultimately, his shortcomings as a coach came to the fore this season. Leeds look much better under Javi Gracia. And you do get the sense that we would be in a much better place had a change come immediately after the World Cup.

Leicester do have star quality in the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. So you cannot rule them out. But it is a difficult appointment to really understand given everything that went on at Leeds.
