Lucy Ward has reacted on Twitter to Leeds United’s loss at Everton on Saturday by criticising the board for not immediately replacing Jesse Marsch as manager.
It is hard to not feel that we are heading towards relegation after the latest trip to Goodison Park. Leeds now find themselves 19th after all of the bottom three won this afternoon.
One of those to come out on top was Everton. Seamus Coleman’s second-half strike settled the clash on Merseyside. And Leeds could only produce a shambolic display given what was at stake.
Michael Skubala received credit for the way he handled the two games against Manchester United. Leeds took a point from those fixtures. But, almost more importantly, they looked bright in both games and would have felt that they deserved more.
However, any optimism has evaporated entirely after our latest game. Leeds looked out of ideas against a team who also lacked any quality. And in the end, it seemed that only Everton were going to score if anyone was going to get a second goal.
With Southampton up next and winning against Chelsea, Leeds surely cannot afford to not appoint a new manager by the time that game kicks off.
Certainly, Ward has expressed her disbelief over what has gone on at Leeds over the last couple of weeks. Clearly, the Whites’ former forward cannot believe that the club allowed Marsch to go without having his replacement in mind…
There are no excuses for the board now. Skubala has been put into a tough position. And he will be extremely hurt with the performance the team served up on Saturday.
This is not on him, at all. Leeds have been sleepwalking towards relegation for months, even before the dramatic win against Bournemouth in early November. That was our last league victory, by the way.
If the Leeds board have any sense, they will go out and stop at nothing to get a good manager in before next weekend.
Otherwise, the atmosphere at Elland Road is definitely going to be a sight to behold.
