It has been a wonderful start to life back at Leeds United for Sam Byram, but the defender has told the club’s official podcast that behind the scenes – it was “stressful” for him and his family to begin with.
On the pitch, 30-year-old Byram has surprised many with a string of superb performances from the left flank. Despite playing on his weaker side, he has made that position his own – starting the last four.
He proved his fitness in the summer and has gone on to become a key player in what is not only his second spell at Leeds – but his second time under Daniel Farke. It seems like a match made in heaven.
Byram was discussing his move to rejoin Leeds in the summer on a free transfer, after his contract at Norwich City came to an end. Byram explains the stressful nature of the move to Leeds, off the pitch.

“It’s funny, I sold my house in Norwich. We had the completion date set. I needed to shift my furniture. Because I didn’t know what was happening at Leeds, me and my partner were looking at places to rent.
“The first five, six weeks we were dotting between hotels and Air B&B’s. She’s pregnant, it was stressful. We put our name down to buy this house before Leeds offered me anything and luckily, it has paid off.”

Despite the stress, the risk of being a free agent and joining Leeds, and his injury record – it has all paid off for Byram at a time when it really needed to. He has excelled back at Elland Road, the perfect move.
Hopefully now, Byram can put the stress of his move to Leeds behind him and focus on the pitch – at least, until his daughter is due in March. Certainly, we need a fully fit Byram to keep up our momentum.
