Luciano Becchio has posted an upbeat message on Twitter after Leeds United were relegated to the Championship following a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur – just three years after promotion under Marcelo Bielsa to the top tier.

A brace from Harry Kane and goals from Pedro Porro and Lucas Moura cancelled out Jack Harrison’s effort. A poor performance when a big one was needed. But even a win would not have been enough. Everton and Leicester won.

Leeds now return to the Championship with all of Bielsa’s hard work undone. A team that are in the midst of change upstairs with a potential takeover. A vacant sporting director role that needs filling, and now the need for a manager.

Plenty to do this summer, with a number of Leeds players expected to be sold in the coming weeks and months. So, Becchio has taken to Twitter after Sunday’s developments. He posted a defiant message to fans on social media.

Becchio posts on Twitter as Leeds relegated to the Championship

A sad day. A day that will go down in history, and stain Andrea Radrizzani’s era as owner. The man who bought Elland Road back, who guided Leeds out of the wilderness. But, the man whose errors have taken us back down.

Plenty has to change, but at least Leeds are in a much better place than the club that were relegated in 2004. A possible instant return has much more chance that it did all those years ago. Plenty of change is required, now.

A takeover, a new sporting director, a new manager and plenty of player turnover will take place in the next two months, before the 2023-24 Championship season begins. But perhaps, it is the chance Leeds needed to reset.
