A tenth Championship win of the season on Wednesday night saw Leeds United return to the top of the Championship table, securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Luton Town at Elland Road.
Leeds came into the game in good fashion, having beaten QPR and then Swansea in their previous two matches. Luton have struggled but remain a recently-relegated side, and beat Hull in the previous game.
However, not many could have predicted the ease at which Leeds secured a 3-0 win in Yorkshire. Pascal Struijk did have to clear one off the line, but that was as good as it go for Luton on Wednesday night.
Sam Byram opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, a scissor kick into the far corner. Joel Piroe netted his seventh of the campaign and then Dan James came off the bench to score a third goal.
Sam Byram admits his celebration “needs work” after Leeds goal
Not used to scoring goals, Byram netted only his 12th career goal for the Whites in what was his 195th appearance. Over the next month, Byram could reach his 200th outing, a real landmark for the defender.
He took to Instagram following his goal and Leeds’ tenth win of the season, clearly delighted at securing the win and scoring a goal – but also teasing himself over his celebration, or real lack of any celebration.
Byram said: “Enjoyed that one. Celebration needs some work.”
Mirco Antenucci and Luciano Becchio praise Sam Byram
Byram is obviously not your usual scorer. Last season he only managed one, a header in a 3-0 Elland Road win over Watford and he will be hoping he can go one better this season and add to his solitary effort.
The only blot on a near-perfect performance for Byram was that Daniel Farke confirmed Byram may have picked up a muscle injury. But, Luciano Becchio and Mirco Antenucci were among those to praise Byram.

Tottenham’s Archie Gray, out-on-loan Sam Greenwood and current Leeds players also responded to Byram’s post. The chances are though, that Byram is set to be removed from the XI with Junior Firpo back.
