If Leeds United fans could go back in time and drop one of their past legendary figures into this current team, then Lucas Radebe would be a popular choice.
A hard-hitting centre-back who played and captained the Elland Road side from the nineties into the noughties, he witnessed and played a part in some incredible times for the club.
Leeds United fans are hoping to witness the good times again as they feel they have extended their stay in the Championship beyond what was planned.
That Championship play-off final defeat to Southampton still haunts the club and only promotion will wash away that nightmare.
It doesn’t help matters that Illan Meslier produced the howlers of all howlers before the international break when Leeds recorded a 2-2 draw at Sunderland.
In that regard, you could argue that the international break has come at the right time because it allows everything to settle down before the huge Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United on Friday night.
Before the game, Leeds made an exciting announcement on their website that Radebe will be a ‘special guest’ at the match and will be presented onto the field of play at half-time.
It’s a shame that the South African legend can’t put his boots on because he would be amazing at the back for the Whites.
Nonetheless, Radebe took to Twitter to send a message to the Leeds faithful ahead of his return to the club.
Lucas Radebe to be a ‘special guest’ at Elland Road against Sheffield United
“Can’t wait to meet and see @LUFC friends and family at @ Yorkshire Derby game on Friday,” wrote the former defender. “Come on Leeds!! #MOT.”
Leeds United need to stamp their authority
A team like Sunderland have surprised some with the start that they have made, but aside from that howler that cost the game, they stuck their chest out and proved their worth at the Stadium of Light.
It’s time for Leeds to do the same again, but this time against a side that many were expecting to push for automatics and are sitting second in the table.

Three points already separate Leeds and their neighbours, you don’t want it to widen to six at such an early age because the fear of another play-off finish will start to dawn on the fans.
On the flip side, get all three points, then that Meslier howler will be quickly forgotten about and the team can then run with it ahead of a busy and hectic schedule.
