Morgan Whittaker has been quoted by Plymouth Live as saying that he has always wanted to play at Elland Road because of the stadium’s atmosphere – as Plymouth travel to Leeds United on Saturday.
Whittaker, 22, has starred for Plymouth this season. It comes after spending the first half of last season on loan at Plymouth, in a season in which they were promoted to the second tier. 31 games, last term.
He had a hand in 16 goals during that period, scoring nine and creating seven. Plymouth made a move to sign Whittaker from Swansea in the summer, for a fee of £1m and add-ons. 16 more games, this term.
In that time, he has scored seven goals and laid on three assists – scoring a hat-trick in a 6-2 win over Norwich. He is certainly, Plymouth’s danger man. He spoke ahead of Saturday’s trip to Elland Road.
“Ever since I was at Derby and they played in the play-offs against Leeds, it’s always been a stadium that I really wanted to play at”, Whittaker told Plymouth Live. “The atmosphere there is really good.
“So I want to experience it first hand. I think if you look at their team it is a Premier League side but we have shown we can compete with the best in this league. Starting the game well is key on Saturday.”

It is more examples that Championship players are coming to Elland Road with the mindset that it is a cup final. Leeds are a big fish, in a smaller pond. Nevertheless, we need to be at our best to get out of it.
It is winning games against the likes of Plymouth at home – even despite the form and danger Whittaker poses – that will gain promotion. With Ipswich teetering and Leicester losing to us, a win is important.
