Leeds United were among the clubs interested in raiding Manchester United for Brandon Williams but he went to Ipswich Town on loan, and he has since been impressing for our promotion rivals.
Williams, 23, was a target for Leeds in the summer. The Independent said that a reunion between Daniel Farke and Williams was on the cards. The duo worked together during Farke’s time at Norwich City.
Renowned for being a versatile full-back, Williams might have been a smart signing but Leeds brought in Djed Spence and Sam Byram to bolster options on both sides of the defence. Williams joined Ipswich.
He has since played 10 times for Ipswich at both left-back and right-back – covering ex-Leeds man Leif Davis when he has been unavailable. Mostly, Williams has played on the right side of the back four.
Williams has even scored two goals, and his manager – the highly-rated Kieran McKenna – said he is “getting stronger”. Ipswich of course, are ahead of Leeds in second place, eight points ahead of us.

Williams might have been a smart signing, but his arrival would have been questioned given the rivalry between Leeds and his parent club. Certainly, Leeds are not wishing they would have signed Williams.
That is largely due to the form of Archie Gray playing at right-back, out of position. Spence is nearing a return to action after injury. Byram has been superb on the left, and Junior Firpo is now back in action.
But there is no doubt that Williams has made a very solid start to life at Portman Road. Ipswich continue to hold on to a decent gap between themselves and Leeds – Williams helping the Tractor Boys do that.
