Leeds United were among the clubs reportedly looking at Barcelona defender Sergino Dest last summer as they looked to bring in competition for Luke Ayling – and now, the American is on the transfer list at the Nou Camp.
Of course, the club decided to trust Jesse Marsch last summer and instead, brought in Rasmus Kristensen from RedBull Salzburg. The Dane was expected to be the club’s new first-choice right-back, but he has struggled.
Indeed, Ayling has come in and starred ahead of the Denmark star – though Kristensen did come off the bench against Wolves and scored within a matter of seconds. But it will be interesting to see what happens in the summer.
Kristensen was dropped, initially at least, from the Denmark squad due to his lack of game time at Leeds. Ayling remains first choice and Kristensen will not want to endanger his place in the Denmark squad ahead of Euro 2024.
So it might be, that Kristensen departs. He will need replacing. Ayling has penned an extension until 2024 but he is unlikely to remain at the club beyond the end of the 23-24 season. Cody Drameh remains on the books, out on loan.
Leeds looked at Dest and now he is on Barcelona transfer list
Last summer, USA star Dest was linked with Leeds. TeamTalk claimed the Whites were keen on adding another USA star to the ranks, but instead, he went on loan to Milan. Like Charles De Ketelaere, he has struggled with the Italians.
Dest has managed little over 600 minutes of football all season. 90Min report that Barcelona are keen to offload Dest. West Ham, Palace and Wolves want him – with Barca looking to recoup the £18.5m fee they spent to sign him.
Should Leeds be in the mix? Without a doubt, if Kristensen does opt to leave the club in the summer. With Euro 2024 on the horizon, that is a possibility. Dest has huge potential and could be a bargain at £18.5m. One to watch.
