Calum Chambers struggled to make his move to Aston Villa work over the last couple of years and he looks set to leave the Midlands club soon – a player Leeds wanted during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign.
The 28-year-old joined Villa in January 2022 and is now approaching two years at Villa Park, where he has a contract until the summer of 2025 – worth £50,000 a week. But, he is really struggling to play.
The Athletic suggest he could be one of a number of players to leave the club in January, given he has managed only three outings this season, less than 200 minutes of football in total under Unai Emery.
Given he joined Villa on a free, he won’t cost much should Villa decide to cash in on the defender in the January window. Tyrone Mings is closing in on a return from injury, pushing Chambers down the order.

Chambers is proven in the Premier League, and – perhaps because Bielsa liked a player that can play in numerous positions – was a target for Leeds. Right-back, centre-back, left-back and in holding midfield.
Now perhaps looking for an exit at Villa, could Leeds reignite interest and make a move for Chambers? Certainly, a loan deal could be organised between Leeds and Villa in January – but maybe, not a priority.
Indeed, Leeds need a left-back and a no.10 and Chambers doesn’t particularly fall into that category. But, the need for a right-back or a centre-back may emerge come the end of the current campaign.
Joe Rodon is only on loan and Charlie Cresswell may look for an exit. At right-back, Luke Ayling, Jamie Shackleton, Stuart Dallas and Sam Byram are all out of contract in June. Djed Spence, also on loan.
