Leeds United’s rivals Sheffield United fear their star man may have suffered ‘serious’ injury

Leeds United are well and truly in the Championship title race – but there are other clubs well in and amongst it.

As the title race heats up, clubs in and around the top four will be hoping their key players don’t suffer any setbacks in what is now a crucial part of the season.

Leeds United, Burnley, Sheffield United, and Sunderland are the front-runners for this year’s title, and Leeds will be frustrated by their recent dropped points against Hull City.

However, Daniel Farke’s side may have been handed an advantage at Sheffield United’s expense.

Sheffield United may have suffered a ‘serious’ injury to Gustavo Hamer

Gustavo Hamer has been a crucial asset to Chris Wilder’s side this season and scored the opener in the Blades’ 2-1 victory away at Watford.

He has been the heart and soul of Wilder’s midfield, but he may have just lost his main man after Saturday’s Watford encounter.

Speaking to the media after the game, Wilder said: “He had a tight hamstring and went to as long as he can go to. We really are living dangerously. Hopefully, he hasn’t done anything too serious.”

If Hamer’s hamstring injury is anything significant, Farke and his fellow title-chasing managers will see his setback as a real positive.

Silver lining for Blades as injury could stop Leeds pursuit for Gus Hamer

Leeds had previously shown a serious interest in signing the Blade in the summer with a £13m bid from Leeds for Hamer rejected.

Since then there has been no sign from a Leeds point of view in signing the midfielder in January, but for Sheffield United’s sake, although his setback could be crucial, it will fend off interest and put to bed any chance of Hamer leaving this January.

Wilder was confused with Leeds’ Hamer bid, claiming ‘I don’t know what it was supposed to do’ and may have avoided a scenario with the Whites this January.

This may not stop Leeds from persuing Hamer next summer, who no doubt remains a transfer target for Farke in the future and it comes as no surprise why he is so in demand.

Nevertheless, an injury to Hamer could have definitely put a spin on this mental title race in the Championship.
