Leeds United have handed out deals to Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph, and are said to be closing on new terms for Willy Gnonto – but their next should go to a player attracting interest from Europe.

Gray turns 18 today, having signed a new long-term deal earlier this year – as did striker Joseph, who is really catching the eye of late. The striker scored a brace against Chelsea, and starred against Stoke.

Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Gnonto has agreed a deal in principle, despite the club yet to announce a new contract for the Italian ace. So, who next? Well, it simply has to be Illan Meslier.

It comes after Meslier was touted with a possible move to a big European club this summer, with the report from Spain claiming both Barcelona and Real Madrid had shown previous interest in the stopper.

Indeed, it is claimed big European clubs are considering Meslier – after 17 clean sheets in 38 games this season, conceding only 30 times. Promotion is likely, and it is because of the form of players like him.

Leeds’ next deal has got to go to Illan Meslier amid new reports

Meslier’s current deal that is due to expire in 2026. No immediate danger. But, should he impress in the Premier League next season, the “fabulous” star would be closing in on the final year of his contract.

The Whites cannot allow that to happen – Meslier is crucial to Leeds. His lack of activity on social media in the summer was perhaps a sign that he was considering an exit, before staying put at Elland Road.

It shows that his head can be turned. Leeds’ next deal must go to the Frenchman, tying him down amid interest from Europe – and retaining his entire value. Failure to do so, and we could lose the stopper.
