Sam Greenwood has confirmed that he has returned to Leeds United training after a brief spell on the sidelines – with a five-word update on his Instagram story. The summer signing from Arsenal has missed the last three Premier League Under-23 matches, last of which saw Leeds lose to Crystal Palace on Monday in London.
Greenwood, 19, has been excellent since leaving Arsenal for £1.5million to join Leeds. Becoming a crucial part of Mark Jackson’s Under-23’s, he initially started up front and was banging in the goals – but has since been converted into an attacking midfielder. Now, he operates much like Rodrigo does in the first team – offering cover in both positions.
He boasts stats of seven goals in 12 PL2 games, while also being handed his debut for the first team during the 3-0 defeat to Crawley Town. But since the 4-2 win over Middlesbrough in PL2, Greenwood has been missing from action – after it was confirmed by the club he had suffered an injury ahead of the game against Reading, a match which Leeds won 3-0.
The three-time England Under-18 international’s injury could not have come at a worse time, with Greenwood on the verge of breaking into the club’s matchday squad for Premier League matches. The likes of Jack Jenkins, Charlie Cresswell, Niall Huggins and Joe Gelhardt have warmed Marcelo Bielsa’s bench of late – but Greenwood is yet to do that.
However, the ex-Sunderland man has now confirmed that he is backin in training with a five-word post on his Instagram story. It is unclear as to when he will return to action – but it could be as early as Friday, when Leeds take on Wolves away from home in a top-of-the-table clash.
