Willy Gnonto has told LUTV that Leicester City deserve praise for the way they’ve started this term, sitting top of the Championship table at this stage – but is confident Leeds United are a better side.
Gnonto, 19, is not expected to start for Leeds tonight. A refusal to play in the summer and then an injury picked up in the 0-0 draw with Hull City has seen Gnonto endure a bit of an up-and-down season so far.
Italy star Gnonto is of course, a player of huge talent. But Dan James and Cree Summerville have been even better this season. Reports are even suggesting that Gnonto is looking to leave Leeds in January.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato say he has informed his agents to find him a new club. Talks have been held with Roma and Lazio – but his £22m price tag is considered too high, ahead of the January window.
Speaking ahead of Friday night’s clash between first and third, Gnonto praised Leicester for the way they have started the 2023-24 season. But, comparing both sides, he claims Leeds are the better team.

“We’re just buzzing. It’s a great game, they’re in top form, top of the league. We’re not worse than them. We have the same quality, if not better. You want to play in these top games. Hopefully, we can win.”
Willy Gnonto says Leeds are a better team than Leicester
We did a combined XI between the two sides, of players that are available and based off their current form – and Leicester won 6-5. Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Cree Summerville, Dan James and Georginio.
Leeds are better in attack. That is where are strengths lie. Our defence has been solid at times but it must be said that Leicester’s back line has been superb this season – as has parts of their midfield.
Harry Winks and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have been up there with two of the best players in the League this season. Leeds must get in and amongst it and be organised if we are to get anything from tonight.
