Jaidon Anthony has told the latest Leeds United podcast that Max Aarons helped convince the winger to swap Bournemouth for Elland Road on loan in the summer – by complimenting Leeds boss Daniel Farke.
Anthony, 23, came off the bench for the third Championship match in a row on Saturday and scored as Leeds beat Watford to win 3-0. A cool finish into the far corner, after superb work from Georginio Rutter.
The fleet-footed winger has made an excellent start to life at Leeds. Arguably, he should have more than one goal – missing a chance at Millwall and one before his goal against Watford. But he is now underway.
Anthony joined Leeds on deadline day in a loan swap deal, that saw Luis Sinisterra move to The Vitality Stadium until the end of 2023-24. Sinisterra was one of a number of players with a loan release clause.
Sinisterra has only managed on sub outing so far for Bournemouth while Anthony has already got off the mark for Leeds. So far, Leeds look like we have the better end of the deal. A start could be in the offing.
Of course, Aarons came close to joining Leeds in the summer. He moved to Bournemouth after Leeds had agreed a £12m deal, with a medical scheduled. But the Cherries hijacked a late move for Aarons.
Anthony says Aarons helped convince him to join Leeds United
Aarons worked under Daniel Farke at Norwich – the German handing him his debut, and making him an established member of the side. Anthony shares how he spoke to Aarons about Farke, before joining.
“100%, absolutely [Farke was a draw for me to come to Leeds]. Obviously, he’s been so successful in this division. I spoke with Max Aarons who is at Bournemouth now,” Anthony told the LUTV podcast.
“He [Aarons} only spoke highly of him and would be perfect for my playing style and would learn a lot from him, and I’m seeing that already. Hopefully I can keep improving and have success at this club.”
