Regardless of whether Leeds stay up or not, work is set to begin at Elland Road once the season is over.

The 49ers have exciting plans for Elland Road and are in discussions with the Leeds City Council over a redevelopment of the stadium.

Plans are already in place to transform the home of Leeds from having a capacity of 37,645 to one which holds 53,000 – although the 49ers must first appease the council over a transport blueprint.

As talks over the extension continue, a timeframe on another change to Elland Road has been given by Leeds Live as Howard Wilkinson and Marcelo Bielsa are set to be honoured.

Two new spaces either side of the East Stand reception – named Howard’s Way and Bielsa’s Place – are to be constructed once the current campaign is over, in recognition of two Leeds legends.

Wilkinson remains the last English manager to win the top-flight, doing so with Leeds in the 1991/92 season, and was recently inducted into the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame for his efforts in the game.

With regard to Bielsa, who is heading to Wembley soon, the Argentine ended a 16-year absence from the top-flight in 2019/20 when guiding Leeds to promotion as winners of the Championship, before securing a ninth-place Premier League finish the following term.

To give a more specific indicator, Leeds Live state that work could begin at the end of May.

How Leeds United supporters can personally get involved in Howard’s Way and Bielsa’s Place

Leeds fans can actually interact with these plans.

Supporters are able to purchase personalised legacy stones to be embedded in either Bielsa’s Place or Howard’s Way.

With both tributes set to be a permanent inclusion at Elland Road, it is a nice way for Leeds fans to quite literally cement themselves alongside two legends of the club, or even honour someone close to them.

Hopefully, Leeds can enter the 2026/27 campaign as a Premier League club with Howard’s Way and Bielsa’s Place at Elland Road.
