Leeds United are already awash with Wales players but they could have another, in the form of a current Elland Road star as Craig Bellamy eyes a “shock” move.

Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon joined the club last summer, a Leeds side that already boasted winger Dan James. A large part of the core of Rob Page’s side that he took to Euro 2018, and the World Cup in Qatar.

Since Ampadu and Rodon’s arrival, Leeds also had Connor Roberts on loan from Burnley while midfielder Charlie Crew has won his first cap for Wales without making his debut for Leeds under boss Daniel Farke.

Now, Leeds could be about to have another player called-up by Wales alongside Ampadu, Rodon, James and Crew. Indeed, an uncapped Leeds star is the subject of interest from new Wales boss Bellamy.

Karl Darlow could win Wales cap even as back-up at Leeds

The 33-year-old goalkeeper is currently acting as Illan Meslier’s back-up option, and hardly gave a good account of himself in his only outing this season when Leeds were hammered 3-0 by Middlesbrough.

Darlow has only played a handful of times for Leeds but there is no doubting he is among the best back-up goalkeepers in the League. The Sun’s Alan Nixon says on his Patreon channel that Bellamy is lurking.

Darlow had been approached by Wales during his time at Nottingham Forest and Newcastle but blocked a Wales call-up as he held out for England. But now, Bellamy is hopeful that Darlow changes his mind.

Darlow would be foolish not to consider Wales call-up this time

A chance to win international caps while not playing regularly in the Championship, alongside four of his teammates? His England hopes are over and Darlow has got to jump at the opportunity before him.

Wales face two difficult fixtures in September against Turkey and Montenegro and will need the best options available to Bellamy to stand a chance in the Nations League matches, and Darlow can be of help.

Especially, because Darlow would be travelling with Rodon, Ampadu, James and possibly Crew. At this stage in his career, Darlow has got to say yes to a phone call from Bellamy and earn some Wales caps.
