TeamTalk claim Leeds United are one of seven English clubs keen on a move for Middlesbrough star Paddy McNair this summer, with Boro willing to listen to offers for the Northern Irishman as he enters the last year of his contract.

McNair has spent five years at Middlesbrough. It comes after breaking in at Manchester United, playing 27 times at senior level before a move to Sunderland. Then, in 2018, he joined Boro – who sold Adam Forshaw six months ago.

He has gone on to play almost 200 times, in a range of different positions. He is able to play in midfield, or in the middle of the defence. A player with 49 Northern Ireland caps. But he has entered the final year of his Boro deal.

The report claims that Leeds are among the clubs interested in Boro’s £5m signing. Newly-promoted trio Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton are all keen – as are Fulham. In the second tier, Leeds, Bournemouth and Leicester City.

McNair would be a smart addition. A player that instantly covers two areas which Leeds need to improve. On the right side of central defence, Leeds are likely to be left with just Charlie Cresswell – when Rasmus Kristensen goes.

Robin Koch and Diego Llorente have gone. Jeremiah Mullen and Kris Moore played against Manchester United on Wednesday in Oslo, with Cresswell given more leave after helping England win the U21 European Championships.

In midfield, Leeds have waved goodbye to Weston McKennie, while Adam Forshaw is yet to sign a new deal. Tyler Adams and Marc Roca could go. So, midfielders are needed and McNair covers that area. He is a useful signing.
