Much of the focus has been on Leeds United’s opponents following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Elland Road.
Leeds missed the chance to secure their first league win over Manchester United in more than two decades at the weekend. Brenden Aaronson‘s opening goal was quickly cancelled out by Matheus Cunha.
Is Brenden Aaronson our best player at the moment? 🔥
But of course, all of the attention following the game was on Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese launched into a strange outburst about his role at Old Trafford after the draw. And that proved to be his final press conference as Manchester United head coach, with the club announcing on Monday that Amorim has left his role.
Leeds post Jason Wilcox clip shortly after Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim
As reported by The Times, Amorim’s relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox broke down after a fiery meeting last week. It is claimed that Amorim did not react well to Wilcox suggesting that he abandon his system with a back three.
Obviously, Leeds fans will remember Wilcox from his time as a player at Elland Road.

And if they had forgotten, the club’s social media were on hand to provide something of a reminder.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle United, Leeds posted a video showing Wilcox’s goal from the 2-2 draw in April 2000.
Given the club’s track record for cheeky posts, it is hard to imagine that the social media team did not connect the dots on such a significant day for their Premier League rivals.
Leeds looking to improve their mixed record at Newcastle United on Wednesday
That game nearly 26 years ago would prove to be a frustrating one for David O’Leary’s men. Wilcox actually put the Whites 2-0 up at St James’ Park, with Michael Bridges opening the scoring.
However, two goals from Alan Shearer would ensure that the points were shared.
Who will be the biggest miss for Leeds in their trip to face Newcastle?
The injury doubts are stacking up for Daniel Farke 🤕
Leeds are now looking for only their third win on Tyneside since the turn of the century. The most recent victory came in 2021 when Raphinha and Jack Harrison were on target.
Interestingly, Raphinha would score an eerily similar goal to Wilcox later that year.
So perhaps Newcastle should be particularly concerned if Leeds get a free-kick down the Magpies’ left flank on Wednesday.
